Weyerhaeuser has announced the fifth edition of its Fighting Fires Together campaign, a program that combines wildfire prevention, emergency response support and community assistance initiatives across the state of Oregon. The campaign brings together the company’s efforts to support rural fire districts, strengthen wildfire response partnerships and provide mental health resources for firefighters operating in fire-prone regions.
The initiative addresses the growing challenges faced by rural communities and emergency agencies that often operate with limited resources while protecting residents, forestlands and firefighting personnel. As part of the program, the company recently allocated nearly USD 25,000 through its Giving Fund to support four Rural Fire Protection Districts (RFPDs) serving vulnerable communities in Oregon. The funding will contribute to the purchase of firefighting, rescue and medical equipment, as well as training programs aimed at improving emergency response capabilities.
The campaign also builds on Weyerhaeuser’s previous support for local firefighting infrastructure, including a 38-acre land donation made in 2025 to the Row River Rural Fire Protection District. The site is intended for the construction of a new emergency substation that will strengthen wildfire suppression efforts in rural areas of Lane County.
“Wildfire response isn’t just a seasonal concern — it’s a year-round commitment that requires collaboration,” said Shane Conway, Vice President of Western Timberlands for Weyerhaeuser. “Our fifth year of the Fighting Fires Together campaign highlights the fact that preparedness is built on strong partnerships and ongoing support. Working closely with our rural communities and firefighters is essential to keeping Oregon’s forests and communities safe from wildfire.”
Weyerhaeuser also continues to work closely with the Oregon Department of Forestry and local emergency agencies on wildfire prevention and suppression activities. These collaborations include aerial firefighting coordination and operational support when fires affect company-owned forestlands and neighboring public or private forests.
In addition, the company is supporting the next generation of wildfire professionals through a USD 10,000 contribution to Lane Community College’s Wildland Fire Management Program. The funding will be used to purchase equipment and safety gear that will enhance practical training in wildfire behavior, fuels management and prescribed burning operations.
A further component of the initiative focuses on firefighter wellbeing. Through a partnership with the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance (FBHA), the campaign provides free online resources designed specifically for wildland firefighters and their families. The platform offers educational materials, peer-support networks and access to mental health professionals familiar with the unique challenges associated with wildfire response.
The program reflects Weyerhaeuser’s broader commitment to forest stewardship, wildfire preparedness and community resilience across the regions where it operates.
