Valmet celebrates 60 years of Perini technology

Valmet marks 60 years of Perini tissue converting technology and ten years of Constellation, with more than 160 installations worldwide.

Valmet is celebrating 60 years of Perini technology, marking six decades of innovation, expertise and development serving the global tissue converting industry.

The story began in 1966 in the heart of the Tissue Valley of Lucca, Italy, where the first tissue converting machine based on Perini technology was developed. That entrepreneurial initiative grew from a combination of technical expertise, determination and a pioneering approach, eventually helping to transform tissue converting on an international scale.

As the Lucca area became one of the world’s leading centres for tissue production and converting, Perini technology accompanied the industry’s evolution and contributed to higher standards of quality, productivity and efficiency. From its roots in the local industrial district, the technology expanded into the principal markets of Europe, the Americas and Asia.

From early rewinders to integrated lines

Over the course of six decades, Perini technologies have responded to and frequently anticipated changing market requirements. Development progressed from the first rewinders to advanced integrated lines, with the objective of helping tissue converters improve performance and meet new production challenges.

This technological and industrial heritage is now part of Valmet’s tissue offering. Converting is incorporated into an integrated approach that combines equipment, services, automation and process expertise across the tissue value chain.

One of the most important developments in this history is Perini Constellation. Introduced to the market ten years ago, the technology brought a new approach to premium tissue converting and established new benchmarks in finished-product quality, production efficiency and operational performance.

More than 160 Constellation installations

In 2026, Perini Constellation also marks ten years since its introduction. The technology has now been adopted by 45 leading tissue companies, with more than 160 installations worldwide. According to Valmet, the result reflects the capacity to translate research, engineering expertise and detailed process knowledge into solutions developed around the practical needs of tissue producers.

The milestone also recognises the contribution made over the years by engineers, technicians, operators, customers and partners. Their combined experience has built a body of knowledge and industrial relationships that developed alongside the tissue sector itself.

Sixty years after the first machine was developed in Lucca, Perini technology remains an international reference point for tissue converting. Valmet said that the anniversary celebrates not only the history of the technology, but also its continuing role in developing future converting solutions for the tissue industry.
