Toscotec completes PM3 drying section rebuild at Papeterie Le Bourray

Installation of Toscotec’s TT SYD-12 FT Steel Yankee Dryer at Papeterie Le Bourray’s PM3 tissue machine during the drying section rebuild project aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing the mill’s carbon footprint.

Toscotec has successfully started up PM3 at the Papeterie Le Bourray mill following a comprehensive rebuild of the machine’s drying section aimed at improving energy efficiency and supporting the mill’s sustainability objectives. The project follows the successful rebuild of PM4 completed in 2020 and forms part of Papeterie Le Bourray’s long-term investment strategy to modernise production assets while reducing environmental impact.

The upgrade was specifically designed to lower energy consumption without affecting production capacity. Toscotec supplied a customised solution focused on improving the efficiency of PM3, which manufactures facial tissue, toilet tissue, napkins and paper towels.

The core of the rebuild involved replacing the existing cast iron Yankee dryer with a next-generation Steel Yankee TT SYD-12 FT. The project also included the installation of new high-efficiency hybrid gas-fired hoods and a new steam and condensate system.

The combination of these technologies significantly improves the machine’s thermal efficiency and contributes to lower energy usage while maintaining stable production performance. In addition to the equipment supply, Toscotec is providing extensive start-up support services, including supervision, operator training and on-site assistance to optimise machine performance.

“We are proud to partner with Papeterie Le Bourray on this strategic project. By implementing our latest technology, we have delivered a tailor-made solution that highlights the value of long-term cooperation and underscores our shared commitment to reaching sustainable goals and fostering decarbonization in the tissue industry,” said Alessandro Mennucci, CEO of Toscotec.

François Bourdin, General Director of Papeterie Le Bourray, emphasised the strategic importance of the investment. “At Papeterie Le Bourray, we continue to maintain a strong level of investment year after year. However, the project carried out with Toscotec falls outside our recurring investment budget, which clearly reflects its strategic importance for our paper mill. This project is fully aligned with our commitment to sustainable performance. It will help reduce our energy consumption and carbon footprint while ensuring the quality of our products and strengthening our competitiveness.”

With PM3 now fully operational, the French tissue producer expects to improve its environmental performance while continuing to meet growing market requirements for high-quality tissue products.
