Suzano expects its Cerrado pulp mill in Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil, to continue outperforming original production targets, with annual output projected to rise above the facility’s nominal capacity over the next two years. According to information presented by the company to investors, the mill is expected to produce approximately 2.57 million tonnes of eucalyptus market pulp in 2026, already exceeding its designed annual capacity of 2.55 million tonnes. From 2027 onwards, production could increase to around 2.7 million tonnes per year.
Suzano stated that the additional volume can be achieved without further capital expenditure, reflecting the operational efficiency and performance levels reached since the start-up of the facility.
The Ribas do Rio Pardo site, located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, began operations in July 2024 as part of the company’s Cerrado Project. The mill is regarded as the world’s largest single-fibre-line facility dedicated to the production of market eucalyptus pulp and represents one of the largest industrial investments ever undertaken by Suzano.
The company reached the mill’s nominal production capacity in early 2025, considerably ahead of the original ramp-up schedule. Suzano attributes this performance to extensive pre-start-up preparation, the experience of the operating team, comprehensive training programmes and the early commissioning and testing of key process equipment.
The Cerrado Project involved total investments of approximately BRL 22 billion and increased Suzano’s annual pulp production capacity by around 20%, bringing the company’s total market pulp capacity to approximately 13.4 million tonnes per year.
The expected production gains reinforce the strategic importance of the Ribas do Rio Pardo operation within Suzano’s global manufacturing network and demonstrate the potential for further efficiency improvements at one of the most modern pulp mills in the world.
