Cascades announced that the Science Based Targets initiative approved its new greenhouse gas reduction targets for 2035. The group aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 67.2% against 2019. Its Scope 3 target is a 41.3% reduction for purchased goods and services, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transport and distribution, and end-of-life treatment of sold products.
The commitments form part of its fifth Sustainability Plan, launched in June. Between 2019 and 2025, Cascades reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 32.6%. The company also reported 2025 emissions 25% below the North American paper industry average, based on a FisherSolve comparison.
Further measures include energy efficiency projects, lower operational energy use, electrification of selected equipment and additional renewable electricity sourcing.
President and CEO Hugues Simon described the validation as recognition of the credibility of the company’s decarbonisation roadmap, supported by established action plans, innovation and investment.
Founded in 1964, Cascades supplies packaging, hygiene and recovery solutions through approximately 60 facilities in North America and employs close to 9,000 people.
