Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, has announced a temporary production shutdown at its Joutseno pulp mill in Finland. The halt in operations is scheduled to begin on March 31, 2026.
The decision has been taken to adjust pulp output to the current market situation, particularly reflecting uncertainty in demand across Asian markets.
According to the company, the shutdown is intended as a production balancing measure rather than a permanent change in operations. Metsä Fibre stated that it will continue to closely monitor market developments before deciding when to restart production at the facility.
The Joutseno mill is one of Metsä Group’s pulp production sites and plays a role in supplying market pulp to global customers, including paper, board and tissue manufacturers. The company emphasized that the restart of the mill will depend on how market conditions evolve, especially in Asia, which remains a key destination for Nordic pulp exports.
