Lucart reports progress on decarbonisation and circular economy in 2025 sustainability report

Francesco Pasquini, CEO of Lucart, speaking during the presentation of the Group’s 21st Sustainability Report at the event held in Lucca, Italy.

Lucart has presented its 21st Sustainability Report, outlining the environmental, social and governance results achieved during 2025 while reaffirming its commitment to decarbonisation, circular economy and responsible industrial growth. Despite a challenging market environment, the Group generated €677 million in revenue, in line with the previous year, and continued to strengthen its European presence through strategic investments and acquisitions.

The report highlights significant progress in climate action, resource efficiency and industrial competitiveness. During 2025, Lucart’s greenhouse gas reduction targets were officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), confirming that the company’s decarbonisation roadmap is aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Environmental performance also improved across several key indicators. Specific CO₂e emissions fell by 4% to 370.47 kg per tonne of paper produced and converted, while water consumption reached 9.38 cubic metres per tonne of paper, exceeding the company’s 2025 efficiency target. At the same time, 95.7% of production waste was recovered, already surpassing Lucart’s 2030 target of 90%.

The Group also continued to advance its circular economy strategy. Today, 85% of its packaging contains more than 30% recycled material, compared with 82% in 2024. Production remains based on a balanced mix of 46% certified virgin fibre and 54% recycled fibre, combining product quality, resource efficiency and sustainability.

In 2025, Lucart further expanded its industrial footprint, operating 11 production plants, 12 paper machines and a total annual production capacity of approximately 400,000 tonnes of paper, supported by a workforce of more than 1,700 employees. A key milestone during the year was the acquisition of Cartindustria Eurocarta, completed in December 2025, which strengthens the Group’s position in the European Away-from-Home tissue market while creating new production and commercial synergies.

Health and safety remained a central priority. Following the achievement of ISO 45001 certification across all production sites in 2024, the company recorded a further reduction in workplace accident frequency and severity during 2025. Three facilities — Torre di Mosto (Italy), Nyergesújfalu (Hungary) and Blackmore Park (United Kingdom) — completed the year without recording any employee accidents.

Lucart also continued its long-standing partnership with Save the Children, supporting initiatives including Fiocchi in Ospedale, Spazi Mamme and Punti Luce. The collaboration has now been renewed for another three years and will continue to include educational projects, corporate volunteering activities and fundraising campaigns.

On the governance front, Lucart received the EcoVadis Platinum Medal for the fourth consecutive year, achieving a record score of 89 out of 100, compared with 75 in 2022. During the year, the company also obtained ISO 14064 certification for greenhouse gas emissions accounting and successfully completed the BSCI social responsibility audit, further strengthening its ESG governance framework.

“For Lucart, sustainability is not a separate chapter from growth, but the way in which we build long-term industrial competitiveness. The year 2025 clearly demonstrates this: we strengthened our European presence, obtained scientific validation of our climate targets, improved our environmental performance and consolidated our commitment to people and the supply chain. In an energy-intensive and complex sector such as paper manufacturing, these results confirm that innovation, responsibility and industrial solidity can move forward together,” said Francesco Pasquini, CEO of Lucart.

The Sustainability Report was presented in Lucca during the event “Transparent by choice, responsible by nature”, bringing together representatives from Lucart, academia, think tanks and the third sector to discuss the role of sustainability, transparency and industrial responsibility in the paper industry.
