Mevas has recently pushed on the concept of energy diversification in the paper industry, not only through the modular integration of different fuels, but also with the complex combination of traditional energy sources, heat recovery and electric power from renowables. The fundamental aim of Mevas latest R&D Dept. innovations is to provide to our customers state-of-the art drying technologies in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability requirements. But this is our essence, nothing more. The biggest challenge we have lately faced is to be sure to develop products able to adapt to an energy context which is changing day by day at incredible speed. Our customers can count on systems which are deeply adaptable and performant in every configuration, present and future.

Stratoflame HE
Stratoflame Hybrid Electric is the perfect example of the energy resilience we are constanlty looking for. It combines the unique flexibility and combustion performance of Mevas burner with the electrical add-on opportunity. Stratoflame HE is able not only to maintain the optimal performance standard with a wide range of fuels (as natural gas, LPG, syngas, hydrogen), which can be alternated or blended, but also to combine the energy sources available with the electric power. This energy flexibility doesn’t involve any lay-out complication. The modularity of the electric heaters add-on matches perfectly the Stratoflame feature of being totally customizable and suitable for any existing layout. So, the percentage of the electric add-on can be defined depending on power or spaces available.

Stratoflame HE – case study
Customer’s requirements:
- 4 MW burner power required (the current one is working with an high excess air or bad CO-NOx emissions).
- A variable amount of electric power available from renewables.
- Possibility of hydrogen use in the next 5 years.
- Low spaces available = around 1700mm lenght in a 1200X1200mm duct.
Solution: Stratoflame 4 MW + Mevas gas station with Full Hydrogen predisposition + Phoenix Pro control panel + HE pack (electric heaters + sensors and controls) to generate up to 1.2 MW according to the space available. Thanks to this solution, our customer can count on an innovative combustion system for the next years without worrying about energy scenario rapid changes.
Energy saving and manufacturing optimisation, whether it’s a rebuilding or a new project
SPe

Steam Pack Electric is a fully integrated and high-safety system for the production of saturated steam through the modular combination of heat recovered from exhaust and electric power. MEVAS has developed this hybrid system in order to maximize the steam production from the cooperation of heat recovery and renewables, reducing or totally eliminating the steam generated with traditional sources. The main goal of SPe development has been the integration of the electric power and the brilliant energy recovery performance of Mevas Steam Pack. This result has been achieved thanks to the absolute modularity of the system; in fact, through the accurated control and safety devices installed, we are sure to use at first all the energy contained in the exhaust and then to integrate the steam produced by the heat recovery with the electric add-on.
SPe – case study

- 6 tons/h of saturated steam – Yankee consumption.
- Enough temperature and exhaust flow available in the process.
- Good amount of electric power from renewables available.
- Convenience of electric power in different time slots of the day.
Solution: Steam Pack Electric – 1300 kg/h of saturated steam generated from exhaust recovery (classic Steam Pack) + 4700 kg/h from renewables thanks to the electric boiler configuration. Thanks to this solution, our customer is able to combine fossil fuel and electricity to produce steam, one or the other basing on the time slot of the day, obtaining huge benefits in terms of costs saving and sustainability goals.
Mevas hybrid solutions (Stratoflame HE and Steam Pack Electric) bring several benefits in different ways. They obviously generate a substantial energy saving thanks to their intrinsic technical features and the opportunity to integrate in the production heat recovered and electric power, combining, reducing or eliminating the intake of the traditional fuels. At the same time, they help our customers to reach the sustainability and environmental goals without hinder the production targets, necessary to profitably carry on the daily business.
