UPM has announced temporary production curtailments at two of its Finnish pulp mills as part of measures aimed at balancing production levels, optimizing wood sourcing and safeguarding profitability in the current market environment. The company confirmed that the UPM Kaukas pulp mill in Lappeenranta, Finland, will be temporarily shut down from August 3, 2026 for approximately six weeks.
In addition, UPM is preparing for a potential temporary production stoppage at its Pietarsaari pulp mill, with the curtailment currently being planned for October 2026. According to the company, the measures are intended to align pulp production with prevailing market conditions while optimizing the availability and use of raw materials. The temporary shutdowns are also expected to support cost management and operational efficiency during a period characterized by challenging market dynamics.
UPM stated that the production curtailments are being implemented to ensure the long-term profitability and competitiveness of its pulp operations while maintaining flexibility in response to changing market conditions. No further details regarding the potential duration of the Pietarsaari shutdown have been disclosed at this stage.
