When flexibility and trust deliver performance. A new interfolded product line by Kairos

In the tissue converting sector, investment decisions are not measured solely in meters per minute. They are measured by reliability, production continuity and the ability to adapt to specific requirements. It is in this context that Kairos developed its new line of interfolded products for a leading European tissue converting group.

The project took shape within a long-standing professional relationship that the Kairos team has built over time on technical expertise, in-depth knowledge of production processes, and open, direct dialogue between the parties. This exchange allowed the customer to view the investment not merely as the purchase of equipment, but as the development of a truly bespoke solution.

As Andrea Tonini, Sales Manager at Kairos, who personally oversaw the negotiations, points out: “Having a relationship with this customer, built on mutual trust and going back more than a decade, has undoubtedly been a decisive factor in this deal. I sold them their first machine twenty years ago”.

The line was conceived with a clear goal: to combine high performance with maximum customization. With a production speed of up to 300 m/min, it ranks among the highest‑performing configurations currently available in the folded product line segment. However, speed is only one part of the equation.

The real value of the project lies in its engineering flexibility. The customer requested a highly customized configuration with particular emphasis on accessibility, day‑to‑day operation and simplified technical servicing.

Kairos responded with targeted engineering development on key machine groups and components, introducing design solutions that make maintenance and set-up operations quicker and safer.

Taken together, these measures help improve the overall efficiency of the system in everyday operation, not only in terms of theoretical performance.

Among the most significant features are the optimization of the folding and cutting roller system, which reduces routine maintenance operations and a finger configuration designed to simplify technical servicing. The cabinet layout has also been designed to improve internal accessibility and handling.

All these elements help minimize downtime and improve the line’s actual efficiency in day-to-day production.

From a control and electronic systems perspective, the machine adopts the new updated Siemens platform, designed to ensure future component availability, long-term stability, and reduced risks of technological obsolescence. This choice goes beyond the installation phase and reinforces the sustainability of the investment over the medium-to-the-long term.

The process that led to the final configuration of the line was marked by ongoing technical and commercial dialogue. The initial configuration was gradually refined and enhanced by incorporating specific requests and tailor‑made solutions. The result is a machine that gives tangible form to the customer’s needs, combining performance, reliability and adaptability.

As Tonini goes on to explain: “The customer can have specific requests. Our strength lies in our ability to embrace them and adapt the project accordingly, developing truly made-to-measure solutions”.

In a sector where standardization is often the easiest route, KAIROS has chosen to focus on its ability to listen and on design flexibility. This approach makes it possible to turn a system into a platform built around real production requirements, while still maintaining high levels of performance.

In a context dominated by large international groups, Kairos has leveraged its lean structure and direct decision‑making capability to respond quickly and flexibly to customer requirements. Here Tonini – once again – sums up the approach taken on this project: “The ability to adapt promptly and efficiently to the customer’s needs has undoubtedly been our greatest advantage”.

The new line marks a further step in the company’s technological development in the high‑performance tissue converting sector. Because now more than ever, true performance is not only about achieving maximum speed – it is about doing so with continuity, control, and with a partner capable of turning specific needs into concrete solutions.
